What is a LED?
A LED is quite simply
a solid-state light bulb. An
incandescent light bulb has a filament of carbon or tungsten which
is physically connected together.
Current passes from one end of the filament to the other
which in turn produces light and substantial amount of heat. In a LED, there is no filament, only conductive
materials such as silicon which are not in physical contact with
each other. Light is created
by exciting the atoms contained between the positive and negative
poles. Additionally, the Light Emitting
Diode is encased in crystal clear plastic which serves as both protection
for the diode as well as a projector for the light it produces.
Since
LEDS don’t have a filament to burn out, they
last longer, create virtually no heat and use much less energy
than any other form of illumination. Of course, this is an over
simplification
of how a LED works but it gives you the basic principal.
Hyperbrite:
All
CopSticks feature our Hyperbrite LEDS
which utilize a laser-type diode and a 10mm (1/2”) focusing lens to increase the
light ouput and project it further without producing annoying flashback.
Furthermore, all Copstick modules
use 17 Hyperbrite LEDS, so the loss of one LED,
or for that matter 5 LEDs, creates
no significant decrease in light output.
